.......I think that it is very apropos that Clute and Edwards are writing the next NOTW about actor John Garfield's film "Force of Evil." Because TCM plan to air 6 of his films and the documentary about his life called The John Garfield Story on March 04, 2008....And the six films are: Tortilla Flat Pride of the Marines We Were Strangers Nobody Lives Forever The John Garfield Story (Documentary) Body and Soul He Ran All The Way and next week NOTW by Clute and Edwards Force of Evil.
A True Noiraholic
....Here is a link that I found over there under the BAN subject category called links that focus on actor John Garfield life.
http://www.themave.com/Garfield/menu.htm
When you click on the link above and then click on the words on-tv you will be able to view the time the films that I listed above will air on TCM.
I think this is a really nice website covering actor John Garfield life, film career, which include a video tribute, and a very nice!.... photo gallery. (I think he is one of the most "underrated" actor even today!) It is almost like I just discovered him for the first~time! after watching him in a couple of his films today. (and the very interesting documentary that TCM aired today about his life.) Great Stuff!....
Thank-You! Steve~O, For introducing me to Clute & Edwards.

Dear Clute & Edwards, I just finished listening to "Force of Evil" and was delighted to hear you point in "Back-Alley`s" direction in the pre-amble. A little while ago I asked you to set up a forum on your own site (using my actual name, N H Twine) and stumbled accross this one at the same time. I don`t post here often but it`s a great (and VERY friendly) site to dip into and I hope many, many other OOTP fans will be drawn here too. Keep up the GREAT work! Regards, Pepe Le Moko // N H Twine

Geez, I disappear for a few months and come back to find this great news.
I eagerly check my iTunes for the latest Clute and Edwards podcast (you can access them through iTunes so that the latest downloads automatically) and listen to them right away.
I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has any kind of demographic breakdown of their listeners. One thing I have to admit that frustrates me is that, with the podcast dropping to monthly, the number of 'neo-noirs' that get discussed while many, many classics have yet to have their turn. These podcasts often uncover some real gems of information or lead me to revisit a favourite from a new angle -- I just wish there were more of them, more often.

Hi N H Twine and Samspadefan1:
Shannon and I are very thankful to Steve-O for agreeing to host a message board focusing on Out of the Past podcasts (OOTP). Shannon and I have always wanted the podcasts to be a starting point for further conversations with noir aficionados and now at Back Alley, I think we have the right place for such discussions.
Regarding Samspadefan's observation, OOTP is now a monthly podcast, and we do seem to now alternate between classic noir and neo-noir, but I definitely think Shannon and I will give added weight to any suggestions that come from postings at Back Alley, so feel free to weigh in with your favorites that we haven't gotten to yet, and also check the movie request list at www.noircast.net
Noircast.net is our portal site for hard-boiled podcasts, and on the left hand side we have the list of all the movie suggestions from the last four years and we do check that list for ideas of movies to discuss.
Thanks for all the support. And keep posting!

Thanks Rich.
As you may be able to tell from looking around this site, many of us have means to delve into noir flicks that aren't easily available to many, but I understand the reasoning to trying to keep the podcasts to those films that are more generally available.
I know I've voted at your site previously, but if I had to pick 3 films to top my wish list for review, they would be:
Night and the City - possibly Widmark's finest moment and as pure a noir as possible (despite the London setting). With the recent passing of both Widmark and Dassin, this would be a fine film to review.
In a Lonely Place - one of Bogart's best performances and a top film from Nick Ray. Gloria Grahamme isn't hard on the eyes either.
Criss Cross - I think more and more of Siodmak as a master of the noir directors chair and believe that this film in many ways rivals (and in some surpasses) The Killers as his ultimate noir film. Not too surprising, in a recent poll we did on IMDb, this one placed quite highly amongst fellow noir fans.

Does anyone know if Clute & Edwards will be resuming their fantastic podcast series?
The last one posted ("Bob Le Flambeur") was back in August and I`m hoping that whatever has cropped up in their lives away from the mic won`t permanently freeze the run at 47 films.
There are so many good ones left and they are so very good at what they do.

Hi Pepe:
We are still around Sorry for the long delay in posting new information to our website. Shannon and I have been very busy with a new podcast series, Yaddocast, which can be found in iTunes or at Yaddo.org. It's been a great new project for us, and we have produced 20 short episodes on major artistic and literary figures in the past three months. In fact, we have an episode on Patricia Highsmith (writer of Strangers on a Train) that might be of interest to listeners of Out of the Past. But this new series has meant that we had to put on hold temporarily our efforts on Out of the Past. For those of you keeping count, that makes Yaddocast our third original podcast series.
However, good news! Episode 48, on In a Lonely Place, with the great Megan Abbott as well as Clute and Edwards, hits the web this week! We think this is a terrific episode, as IALP is one of our all time favorite noirs, and we can't wait to share it with our listeners. So definitely check back this week and get the new episode.
Thanks for listening and thanks for inquiring about Out of the Past.

Dear Mr. Edwards,
I`m VERY pleased to hear that OOTP will be resuming soon. Especially since it`ll be one of the best of the `Bogarts` and your guest will be Megan Abbott, whose,"The Song is You" I enjoyed so much.
I will certainly check out Yaddocast.
Welcome back (from Out of the recent Past)
Pepe/N H Twine.

Fantastic news on both fronts. I've been faithfully checking for new podcasts every couple of days so it's nice to hear that they haven't disappeared. Even better that In a Lonely Place is next up.

Merry Christmas to Out of the Past listeners! In a Lonely Place is now up at our website and iTunes! Let us know what you think. We are very thankful to have the great writer Megan Abbott join us in our discussion. It's been a while since a Clute and Edwards's episode of Out of the Past, so thanks for sticking with us. Looking forward to a noirish 2009!
